Sebit Martin John
Co-Founder and Executive Director
Sebit Martin John is an International Relations and Development professional specialising in human security, climate security, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, diplomacy and sustainable development. His commitment to peace and social justice is deeply shaped by his personal experiences of conflict and displacement in South Sudan, which have strengthened his dedication to advancing the rights of refugees, displaced populations and marginalised communities.
Sebit co-founded Community Development Centre (CDC) in 2014 and serves as its Executive Director, providing strategic leadership in organisational development, programme management, advocacy, resource mobilisation and institutional partnerships across South Sudan and Uganda. His work focuses on the interconnected challenges of displacement, climate vulnerability, natural resource conflicts, misinformation and social fragility, with an emphasis on community-led approaches that address the root causes of conflict and promote sustainable peace.
Beyond his organisational leadership, Sebit actively engages in intellectual and policy discussions on international relations, governance, human security and development. He has participated in international conferences and contributes to scholarly discourse through academic writing, journal publications and manuscript development. His research interests include the relationship between diplomacy, regional cooperation, conflict resolution and community participation in peace processes. He is particularly interested in how institutions, policies and locally grounded knowledge can contribute to more inclusive and sustainable approaches to peacebuilding.
Sebit is a PhD candidate in Social Sciences, majoring in International Relations, at Lincoln University College, Malaysia. He holds a Master of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy from Cavendish University and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Team University.
Through his leadership, research and community engagement, Sebit seeks to bridge academic knowledge, public policy and development practice. His vision is to strengthen community voices, foster constructive regional cooperation and advance evidence-informed solutions that promote human dignity, resilience, inclusive development and lasting peace in South Sudan and the wider region.
