1. Introduction
Community Development Centre (CDC) (“we”, “us” or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy, security and confidentiality of the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, protect and share personal information through our website, https://cdc.ngo (the “Website”), and the digital services connected to it.
In this Policy, “you” means anyone who uses the Website, including community members, programme participants, traditional and community leaders, civil society organisations, development partners, researchers, donors, job applicants, volunteers, media representatives and other visitors.
By using the Website, you accept the practices described in this Policy and in our Terms and Conditions of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website.
2. What We Mean by “Personal Information”
“Personal information” means any information that can identify you, directly or indirectly. It includes:
- Identification details: your name and, where relevant, date of birth and gender.
- Contact details: your email address, telephone number, location and, for donations, billing address.
- Professional details: your organisation, job title and areas of expertise.
- Application materials: CVs, cover letters, academic records, references and related documents.
We work in places affected by conflict and displacement, where the safety of the people we serve matters greatly. We treat all personal information with care, and we take particular care with information about community members, women, young people, children and community leaders.
3. Scope of This Policy and Third-Party Links
This Policy covers personal information collected through systems that CDC owns and operates.
Our Website links to partner organisations, payment providers, social media platforms and other external services. These services have their own privacy practices. CDC does not control them and is not responsible for how they handle your information, so please read their policies before sharing anything with them.

Information collected automatically
When you browse the Website, our systems automatically collect technical information to keep the site secure and working well, including:
- IP addresses and approximate location.
- Browser, device and operating system details.
- Pages visited, resources downloaded and time spent on the Website.
Anonymised information
We remove identifying details from technical data to create anonymous statistics. We use these to learn how people use the Website, improve it, and report on our reach to partners and donors.
5. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information only for legitimate organisational purposes, and we do not reuse it for unrelated purposes without your consent. We use it to:
- Respond to enquiries, feedback and media requests.
- Coordinate programmes, events, partnerships and community forums.

- Keep the Website secure, prevent spam and respond to cyber threats.
- Understand how the Website is used, so that we can improve it.
- Meet our legal, regulatory and reporting obligations.
6. Security and Retention
Security
We use reasonable technical, administrative and physical measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure. Access to applicant records, donor information and contact lists is limited to authorised staff who need it for their work.
No website or electronic system can be completely secure. Please keep any login details or confirmation codes we give you private.
Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law, donor requirements or audit rules require. When we no longer need it, we delete it, anonymise it, or archive it under restricted access.
Where you have sent us a CV, we may keep it on file to consider you for future opportunities. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
8. Community Stories, Photographs and Consent
CDC shares field stories, photographs, videos, audio and case studies to show the change communities are leading. We publish an individual’s photograph, recording or story only with their prior, informed consent, given freely and in a culturally appropriate way. People may withdraw consent at any time.
We take particular care with children’s images and information. We do not publish identifying details about a child without the consent of a parent or guardian, and we protect the safety, dignity and privacy of everyone who features in our communications.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Website is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Website. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
10. Where Your Information May Be Processed
Some of our service providers may store or process information outside South Sudan and Uganda. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information remains protected.
11. Your Rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may ask us to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Delete your information, unless we must keep it to meet legal or audit requirements.
- Object to certain uses of your information.
- Withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from our newsletter.
To make a request, email privacy@cdc.ngo. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act. We will respond within a reasonable time and within any deadline the law sets.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology or the law. We will publish the updated version on this page with a new “Last Updated” date. Where a change significantly affects your rights, we will take reasonable steps to tell you. Please check this page from time to time.
