Soot Semee is a Juba Arabic phrase that means “Voice of Compassion”. The project is a community-centred media project that supports psychosocial healing, stimulates positive behaviour change, and builds peace and social cohesion among South Sudanese refugees and Ugandan host communities living in northern Uganda.
The project trained and equipped refugees and service providers to create audio content that promotes peace, health and development. Soot Semee empowered these communities to lead their own social change by sharing their stories, personal experiences and views on the issues that matter most to them, and to take action. Each week, audio content was created and distributed to listener groups in Omugo, who listened on their Soot Semee speaker boxes.
